These tree portraits were taken in the streets of San Francisco over a four-year period.


They remind me of the broken characters remaining in the 4th act of a Shakespeare tragedy,


and recall Victorian forensic photography, wanted posters, and Weegee's street scenes.


Iimagine them on simple posters tacked to telephone poles all around the city in December,


or in a gallery as very large digital prints at 1:1 scale with the bodies of viewers.
